Possible Causes
Misaligned basket drawer, Broken basket detection microswitch, Damaged magnet or reed switch in handle, Loose interlock wiring to control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before manipulating internal switches.
Basic checks:
- Remove the basket and reinsert it firmly until you hear or feel a click. Some T-fal models require the basket to be fully seated to close the interlock.
- Inspect the basket handle and latch for cracks or deformation that might prevent full engagement.
Interlock switch inspection:
- With the unit unplugged, locate the basket safety switch (usually near the front where the basket slides in).
- Press the switch manually and listen for a distinct click. If there is no click or it feels mushy, the microswitch may be defective.
- Check for a small magnet in the basket handle (on models using a reed switch). Ensure it has not fallen out.
- Test the switch with a multimeter for continuity when pressed. Replace the basket interlock switch if it does not change state.
- Inspect and reseat the switch wiring connector on the main PCB.
Never bypass the safety interlock permanently; it is designed to prevent operation with the basket removed.
