Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Tefal air fryer from the mains before opening or touching any internal parts. Allow the unit to cool completely.
- Power reset: Unplug the air fryer for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in and try again. Sometimes E1 is a transient sensor read error.
- Check for obvious damage: Inspect the power cord and exterior for burn marks or melted plastic. If present, stop and contact a technician.
- Access the sensor (for competent DIYers only):
- Remove the basket and pan, then remove the screws securing the top cover (location varies by model such as Tefal ActiFry, Easy Fry, or Turbo models).
- Locate the small probe (NTC sensor) clipped to or near the heating element or air channel, usually with two thin wires going to the main PCB.
- Check that the sensor connector is firmly seated on the control board and that the wires are not cut or pinched.
- Basic continuity check (optional): With the unit unplugged, use a multimeter set to resistance and measure across the sensor leads. A completely open reading (OL) indicates a failed sensor that must be replaced.
- When to stop: If you see burnt components on the PCB or are unsure how to test the sensor, do not power the unit again. Contact an authorized Tefal service center.
Note: Replacing the NTC sensor usually requires disassembly and correct re-routing of high-temperature wiring. If you are not experienced with appliance repair, professional service is recommended.
