Possible Causes

Open or disconnected NTC temperature sensor on heater plate, Broken sensor wiring harness, Failed main control PCB sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Tristar air fryer and let it cool completely before opening any panels. Never work on a live appliance.

  • Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in and try again. Sometimes E1 is a transient sensor read error.
  • Check basket position: Ensure the cooking basket and pan are fully inserted and latched; some models will not read temperature correctly if the basket is misaligned.
  • Inspect sensor wiring (for experienced DIYers):
    • Remove the screws on the back and/or bottom housing to access the heater area.
    • Locate the small probe or bead-type sensor (NTC) attached to the heater plate or air channel, usually with two thin wires going to the control board.
    • Check for broken, burnt, or disconnected wires and loose connectors. Reseat any loose plug firmly.
    • If the sensor wires are cut or the sensor body is cracked, the sensor assembly must be replaced.
  • Test continuity (optional, with multimeter):
    • Disconnect the sensor from the control board.
    • Measure resistance across the sensor leads; an open (infinite) reading indicates a failed sensor.
  • Replace parts as needed: If the sensor is open or damaged, replace the NTC temperature sensor assembly compatible with your Tristar model. If wiring and sensor are intact but E1 persists, the main control PCB may be defective and should be replaced or serviced by a technician.
