Possible Causes
Protective oils or coatings not fully burned off, Residual manufacturing plastic film near heater, Non-food-safe liners or accessories used inside, Overheating of plastic trim near exhaust
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Ensure good ventilation when performing burn-in cycles.
Steps to reduce plastic odor:
- Initial cleaning: Wash the basket and pan thoroughly with hot soapy water and dry completely.
- Inspect interior: Look for any plastic films, stickers, or packaging materials left inside or near the heating element and remove them.
- Burn-in cycle: Run the air fryer empty (basket and pan installed, no food) at 400°F/200°C for 15–20 minutes, then let it cool. Repeat 2–3 times if needed, ensuring the room is well ventilated.
- Check accessories: Only use accessories rated for air fryer/oven use. Remove any silicone or plastic items that are not high-temperature rated.
Note: If the smell is accompanied by visible smoke or signs of melting plastic, unplug immediately and inspect for deformed parts that may need replacement.
