Possible Causes
Misaligned basket detection switch, Broken basket latch tab, Failed microswitch, Loose switch wiring to control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before inspecting the switch.
Mechanical check:
- Remove and reinsert the basket firmly. Listen for a distinct click from the internal switch.
- Inspect the basket and drawer for broken plastic tabs or deformed metal that should engage the switch lever. Replace the basket/drawer assembly if the latch tab is missing.
Switch inspection:
- Access the area behind the front panel where the basket or door switch is mounted.
- Check that the switch is securely fastened and that its actuator lever aligns with the basket latch.
- Test the switch with a multimeter for continuity when pressed. If it does not change state, replace the switch with a Whirlpool-compatible basket/door switch.
- Verify the wiring harness from the switch to the control board is intact and firmly connected.
