Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the air fryer and let it cool for at least 30 minutes before working on it.
Ventilation and cleaning:
- Check the rear and side ventilation slots. Make sure the air fryer is used with at least several inches of clearance on all sides and not under low cabinets that trap heat.
- Remove the basket and drawer. Clean the interior, especially around the heating element and temperature sensor, using a non-abrasive sponge and mild detergent. Remove baked-on grease that can insulate heat.
Fan and thermal devices:
- Remove the outer cover to access the top heating and fan assembly.
- Spin the convection fan by hand; it should move freely without scraping. If stiff or seized, the fan motor may need replacement.
- Inspect the thermal cutoff / high-limit thermostat mounted near the heater. Some are one-time fuses; others are resettable. Test continuity with a multimeter. If open and not resettable, replace with the exact Whirlpool-specified rating.
- Verify that the fan runs when the unit is powered and heating is commanded. If the fan does not run but receives power, replace the fan motor assembly.
Re-test: After cleaning and any part replacement, reassemble fully before plugging in and test with a short cycle.
