Protective coatings not fully burned off,Low-quality accessory basket coating overheating,Plastic parts too close to heater,Overheating main control board plastics
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If the smell is acrid or accompanied by smoke, unplug immediately and inspect for overheating.
Steps:
- Initial burn-in: Run the air fryer empty (or with a small amount of water in the drawer) at 180–200°C for 10–15 minutes several times, allowing it to cool between cycles, to burn off manufacturing residues.
- Check accessories: Remove third-party accessories and test with only the original Xiaomi basket and drawer.
- Inspect interior: Look for discolored or warped plastic near the heater area. These parts may be too close to the heat source.
If the smell persists after multiple burn-in cycles and cleaning, inspect internal components for overheating. Replace any warped plastic shields or the heater assembly if it is misaligned and overheating nearby plastics.
