Possible Causes

Blocked condensate trap, Blocked or frozen condensate pipe, Incorrect condensate pipe fall, Faulty condensate level sensor (if fitted)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Isolate power. Condensate is mildly acidic; wear gloves and eye protection when handling.

  • Check external condensate pipe: Inspect the plastic condensate pipe outside for freezing (in cold weather), kinks, or blockages. Thaw gently with warm water if frozen.
  • Verify pipe slope: Ensure the pipe runs with a continuous fall to the drain; standing water can cause blockages.
  • Clean condensate trap (qualified person): Remove the condensate trap from the boiler, empty it, rinse with clean water, and refit securely. Check seals for damage.
  • Reset boiler: After clearing blockages, restore power and reset the boiler.

If E13 recurs, have an engineer check the condensate sensor and internal pipework.
