Possible Causes
Dirty or misaligned flame sensor, Poor earth connection, Incorrect gas/air mixture, Faulty PCB flame sensing circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and gas before removing the combustion cover. Only a qualified engineer should access the burner area.
- Observe flame (engineer task): The flame should be stable and blue. Yellow or lifting flames indicate combustion issues.
- Clean flame sensor: The flame ionisation electrode can be gently cleaned with fine emery paper by an engineer to remove oxidation.
- Check earth connection: Ensure the boiler has a solid earth connection; poor earthing can affect flame sensing.
- Gas valve and pressure: An engineer will check inlet and burner pressures and adjust the gas valve if necessary.
- PCB check: If all else is correct, the main PCB may not be reading the flame signal correctly and may need replacement.
