Boiler or nearby piping is leaking water onto the floor

Safety first: Turn off power. If the leak is heavy or near electrical components, shut off water supply to the boiler and call a professional.

• Identify leak source: Dry the area and observe where water first appears: from a valve, fitting, vent, or boiler body.
• Check relief valve: If water is dripping from the relief valve discharge pipe, check system pressure. High pressure indicates an expansion or fill problem.
• Tighten fittings: For minor seepage at threaded joints, gently tighten with a wrench. Do not overtighten cast iron sections.
• Inspect air vents: Automatic air vents on top of air separators can leak if their caps are loose or seals fail. Tighten the cap slightly or replace the vent.
• Call a technician for boiler body leaks: Leaks from the cast iron sections or heat exchanger usually require professional repair or replacement.
