Possible Causes
Failed combustion fan motor, Faulty fan speed sensor (Hall sensor), Obstructed fan wheel, Loose fan connector at control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and gas. Wait for the boiler to cool.
- Listen to fan: On a call for heat, the combustion fan should start smoothly. Grinding, squealing, or no movement suggests a failing fan.
- Inspect fan housing: Remove the front panel and visually inspect the combustion fan on the Crown boiler. Check for debris or broken plastic in the fan wheel.
- Check wiring: Ensure the multi-pin connector from the fan to the control board is fully seated and not heat-damaged.
- Check venting: Confirm the exhaust and intake are not blocked, as heavy restriction can overload the fan.
- Do not lubricate sealed motors: Most modern Crown fan motors are sealed and not serviceable. If the fan does not reach proper speed, it must be replaced by a qualified technician.
