Possible Causes
Seized internal pump, Air-locked pump, Failed pump motor, Loose pump wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and let the boiler cool. Some Crown models have an internal pump; others rely on external circulators.
- Listen and feel: During a call for heat, the pump should hum and the connected pipes should warm. If silent, check the electrical connector at the pump.
- Bleed pump: If the pump has a bleed screw, briefly open it with a towel ready to catch water to release trapped air.
- Check for stuck rotor: Some pumps allow manual rotation of the shaft with a screwdriver after removing the front plug. Gently turn to free a stuck rotor.
- Reset: Restore power and reset the boiler. If E17 persists, the pump likely needs replacement by a technician.
