Possible Causes

Stuck or scaled DHW flow turbine in Defro hydraulic block, Faulty DHW flow switch or Hall sensor, Blocked inlet filter on Defro cold water connection, Wiring fault between DHW sensor and PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power and close the cold water inlet before opening DHW components.

  • Clean inlet filter: At the cold water inlet to the Defro boiler, remove and clean any mesh filter to remove debris and scale.
  • Access DHW flow sensor: Locate the DHW flow turbine or flow switch in the Defro hydraulic block. Carefully remove it following the manual.
  • Descale turbine: Soak the turbine in descaling solution if heavily scaled, then rinse thoroughly. Ensure it spins freely when blown on.
  • Check sensor connection: Ensure the Hall sensor or microswitch on the flow unit is properly connected to the wiring harness.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit the components, open the cold inlet, check for leaks, restore power, and run a hot tap. If E14 persists, the flow sensor assembly may need replacement.
