Possible Causes
Sticking diverter valve, Faulty diverter motor/actuator, Scale or debris in valve body, Faulty position microswitch or sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate power and water before working on the diverter valve assembly.
User checks:
- Observe whether heating or hot water is failing when E16 appears and note the pattern for the engineer.
Engineer checks:
- Locate the diverter valve on the EHC combi boiler hydraulic block.
- Manually exercise the valve (if possible) to free any sticking mechanism.
- Remove and inspect the diverter cartridge for scale or debris; clean or replace as needed.
- Test the diverter motor/actuator for correct operation and replace if weak or inoperative.
- Check any position switches or sensors for continuity and correct signalling to the PCB.
After repair, test both heating and hot water modes to ensure smooth changeover without E16 reoccurring.
