Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and close the fuel shutoff valve before removing burner covers or accessing wiring.
- 1. Check filter and strainer (oil units): Inspect the oil filter at the tank and the pump strainer at the burner. Replace clogged filters and clean strainers according to manufacturer instructions.
- 2. Clean flame sensor: Remove the cad cell (oil) or flame rod (gas) from the burner on your Energy Kinetics boiler. Wipe the sensing surface with a clean, lint-free cloth. Do not sand or scratch the sensor.
- 3. Inspect burner head and nozzle (oil): Remove the burner drawer assembly. Check the nozzle for plugging or distortion and the turbulator head for heavy carbon. Replace the nozzle with the exact size and spray pattern specified by Energy Kinetics and clean or replace the head if needed.
- 4. Verify combustion air: Ensure the burner air intake and any outside air kit are not blocked by debris, snow, or dust.
If the SOFT LOCKOUT condition returns after cleaning and basic checks, a technician should measure flame signal, pump pressure, and combustion to correct the underlying cause.
