Possible Causes
Over-pressurised system, Failed expansion vessel, Debris on PRV seat, Faulty PRV
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Discharged water can be hot. Keep clear of the outlet when the boiler is running.
- Check pressure gauge: If pressure rises above 3 bar when hot, the expansion vessel may have failed.
- Reduce pressure: When cool, bleed radiators or use a drain point to lower pressure to around 1.2 bar.
- Engineer actions:
- Test and recharge or replace the expansion vessel.
- Replace the PRV if it continues to drip after pressure is corrected (once lifted, they often do not reseal properly).
- Check the filling loop is fully closed and not letting by.
