Possible Causes
Leaking pump housing or gasket, Corroded primary heat exchanger on Hoval condensing boiler, Dripping automatic air vent, Loose compression fittings on flow/return or DHW connections
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate electrical power and, if leak is significant, close the boiler isolation valves. Water near electrical parts is dangerous.
- Locate the source: Remove the front panel and use a torch to trace the leak upward. Look for staining or limescale trails from joints, pump, or heat exchanger.
- Tighten fittings: Gently tighten accessible compression nuts on pipe connections, but do not overtighten. Wipe dry and recheck.
- Check automatic air vent: Inspect the air vent on top of the pump or heat exchanger. If it is weeping from the cap, tighten the cap slightly or replace the vent.
- Pump and seals: If water is seeping from the pump body or shaft, the pump or its gasket set must be replaced.
- Heat exchanger leak: If water appears from the bottom of the combustion chamber or around the primary heat exchanger, stop using the boiler and call a Hoval service technician. The heat exchanger may need replacement.
