Possible Causes

Contaminated flame sensor, Poor burner ground, Low gas pressure to IBC gas valve, Faulty control board flame circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Isolate power and gas before opening the boiler cabinet. Only restore power when covers are reinstalled.

  • Clean flame sensor: Remove the flame sensor (or combined igniter/flame rod) from the burner. Lightly polish the rod with fine emery cloth to remove oxidation. Avoid touching the rod with bare fingers. Reinstall and ensure the mounting screw is tight.
  • Check grounding: Verify the boiler chassis is properly grounded to the electrical system. Inspect the ground wire from the main harness to the burner plate and frame; tighten any loose screws.
  • Inspect burner: Look through the sight glass while the boiler attempts ignition (if safe and possible). If flame appears briefly then goes out, the sensor may not be reading correctly or gas pressure may be low. Do not adjust gas pressure yourself.
  • Reset and test: Reset the boiler via the control panel. If E02 returns repeatedly, stop attempting resets.

Persistent E02 requires a qualified technician to verify gas inlet pressure, combustion quality, and to test/replace the flame sensor or main control board.
