Possible Causes

No gas supply to boiler, Faulty ignition electrode, Blocked burner, Faulty gas valve

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If you smell gas, do not attempt to reset the boiler. Turn off the gas at the meter, ventilate the area, and call your gas supplier and a Gas Safe engineer.

User checks:

  • Check gas supply: Confirm that other gas appliances work. If not, there may be a supply issue.
  • Check meter credit (prepay): Ensure you have credit and the gas meter is on.
  • Reset once: Turn the boiler off and on, then press the reset button. Observe if the boiler lights and runs normally.

If L1 returns after a single reset, do not keep resetting. A Gas Safe engineer must check the ignition system, burner, and gas valve.
