Boiler condensate pipe repeatedly freezes in cold weather, causing lockouts

• Locate condensate pipe: Identify the plastic pipe from the boiler to the outside drain.
• Thaw gently: Pour warm (not boiling) water along the length of the external pipe to melt ice. Do not use naked flames or boiling water.
• Reset boiler: Once thawed, reset the boiler and check operation.
• Insulate pipe: Fit suitable weatherproof insulation to the external condensate pipe to reduce future freezing.
• Engineer improvements: An engineer can increase pipe diameter, shorten external runs, or reroute to an internal drain to improve reliability.
