Possible Causes
Undersized external condensate pipe, Inadequate insulation, Long external run, Poor fall to drain
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Warning: Take care when working outside in icy conditions. Risk of slips and falls.
- Locate condensate pipe: Identify the plastic pipe from the boiler to the outside drain.
- Thaw gently: Pour warm (not boiling) water along the length of the external pipe to melt ice. Do not use naked flames or boiling water.
- Reset boiler: Once thawed, reset the boiler and check operation.
- Insulate pipe: Fit suitable weatherproof insulation to the external condensate pipe to reduce future freezing.
- Engineer improvements: An engineer can increase pipe diameter, shorten external runs, or reroute to an internal drain to improve reliability.
