Possible Causes

Seized circulation pump, Failed pump motor, Airlocked pump, Faulty PCB pump relay

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Warning: Pump access usually requires removing the boiler case and working on live electrical and water components. Only a qualified engineer should do this.

  • Check system pressure: Ensure pressure is 1.0–1.5 bar. Very low pressure can cause pump noise and failure to circulate.
  • Listen for pump: When the boiler calls for heat, you should hear a gentle hum from the pump. If it is silent or making loud grinding noises, note this for the engineer.
  • Bleed radiators: Remove air from the system to reduce the chance of airlocks.
  • Engineer actions: The engineer will attempt to free a seized pump, bleed the pump, test electrical supply, and replace the pump cartridge or complete pump assembly if required.
