Possible Causes

Sludge build-up in radiators, Blocked system filter, Partially blocked plate heat exchanger, Incorrectly balanced system

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Radiators and pipes can be hot. Allow them to cool before handling.

  • Bleed radiators: Use a radiator key to release trapped air from cold radiators, then re-pressurise the system.
  • Check radiator valves: Ensure both flow and return valves are open on affected radiators.
  • Clean system filter: If you have an external magnetic filter on the heating return, follow the manufacturer's instructions to clean it (isolate valves first).
  • System balancing: Partially close lockshield valves on radiators that get hot quickly to force more flow to colder radiators.
  • Engineer tasks: If problems persist, an engineer should powerflush the system, clean or replace the plate heat exchanger, and rebalance the system.
