Boiler shows E09; circulation pump does not start and no flow is detected
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and allow the system to cool. Close isolation valves if present before removing any pump components.
Steps to check:
- Bleed the pump: Locate the bleed screw on the front of the pump (if fitted). Loosen it slightly to release trapped air until water flows steadily, then retighten.
- Free the rotor: With power off, remove the pump motor head or access plug and gently turn the rotor with a screwdriver to ensure it spins freely.
- Check electrical supply: Verify that the pump is receiving power when there is a heat demand (this should be done by a qualified person with a multimeter).
- Inspect capacitor (if applicable): On some Kospel boilers using standard circulators, a failed start capacitor can prevent the pump from running. Replace with the correct value if defective.
- Test operation: Restore power and call for heat. If E09 persists and the pump does not run, replacement is likely required.
When to call a technician: Pump replacement and live electrical testing should be carried out by a heating professional.
