Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas and electrical power. Do not repeatedly attempt ignition if you smell gas. Ventilate the area and contact a professional if gas odor persists.
Steps to check:
- Verify gas supply: Ensure the gas cock to the boiler is open and that other gas appliances in the property are working.
- Inspect ignition electrode: Remove the burner cover according to Kospel instructions. Check the ignition electrode for cracks, heavy deposits, or damage. Clean gently with fine abrasive pad if sooted.
- Check electrode position: Confirm the electrode tip is correctly positioned relative to the burner as per the service manual.
- Examine flame sensor: On many models, the ionization electrode doubles as the flame sensor. Clean it and ensure the cable is firmly connected to the control board.
- Test ignition: Reassemble, restore gas and power, and attempt ignition. If E14 persists, the gas valve or control board may be faulty.
When to call a technician: Gas valve testing and burner adjustment must be done by a licensed gas technician.
