Water leaking from under the boiler cabinet or from piping connections
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and, if leak is significant, close isolation valves to the boiler. Beware of hot water and surfaces.
- Identify leak source: Remove the front panel and use a flashlight to trace the leak. Check around the pressure relief valve, pump flanges, heat exchanger connections, and condensate trap.
- Relief valve discharge: If water is coming from the relief valve discharge pipe, check system pressure. High pressure may indicate a failed expansion tank or overfilled system.
- Tighten fittings: Carefully tighten any accessible unions or threaded fittings that are seeping. Do not overtighten plastic condensate fittings.
- Condensate leaks: Inspect the condensate trap and tubing for cracks or loose connections. Replace damaged tubing and reseat connections.
Professional help: If the heat exchanger itself is leaking or if you cannot locate the source, contact a Lochinvar service technician. Operating with leaks can damage electronics and structure.
