Navien Condensate Drainage Failure

Boiler condensate trap overflows or water drips from bottom during operation

Possible Causes

Blocked condensate trap, Kinked or frozen condensate line, Improper trap installation, Debris in drain connection

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before removing the condensate trap. Condensate is mildly acidic; wear gloves and eye protection.

  • Step 1 – Inspect drain line: Follow the condensate hose from the trap to the drain. Straighten any kinks and ensure proper downward slope.
  • Step 2 – Check for freezing: In cold areas, look for ice in the line. Thaw gently and insulate or heat‑trace the line.
  • Step 3 – Clean trap: Remove the condensate trap per Navien instructions, empty it, and rinse out debris. Refill with clean water before reinstalling to maintain the water seal.
  • Step 4 – Verify drain connection: Ensure the end of the condensate line is not submerged in standing water, which can cause backpressure.

Do not operate the boiler with a disconnected or leaking condensate system; corrosive condensate can damage surrounding materials.
