Possible Causes
Failed fan motor, Obstructed fan wheel, Loose fan wiring, Control board fan driver fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF power before accessing the fan. Do not insert fingers into the fan housing.
- 1. Listen for fan operation: On a call for heat, you should hear the combustion fan start. If it is silent or makes grinding noises, suspect a fan issue.
- 2. Inspect venting for blockage: Check intake and exhaust terminations for obstructions that could overload the fan.
- 3. Check fan wheel: With power OFF and cover removed, visually inspect the fan wheel for debris or broken blades. Do not spin it with power applied.
- 4. Verify wiring: Ensure the fan motor connector is firmly attached to the control board and wires are intact.
- 5. Replacement: If error 61 persists, the combustion fan assembly typically must be replaced by a Noritz technician, who will also verify proper combustion.
