Possible Causes

Failed DHW NTC sensor on plate heat exchanger or tank, Loose sensor wiring, Scale buildup causing sensor overheating, Control board input fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power and close the cold water supply to the boiler if removing any DHW components.

  • Locate DHW sensor: On combi NTI boilers, the DHW sensor is usually clipped to the plate heat exchanger or inserted into a sensor well on the DHW outlet.
  • Inspect and reseat: Check the sensor body and wiring for damage. Reseat the connector at both the sensor and control board.
  • Test sensor: Measure resistance and compare to NTI’s NTC chart. Replace if readings are incorrect.
  • Check for scale: Excessive scale in the plate heat exchanger can cause localized overheating. If DHW temperatures fluctuate or are very hot, a technician should descale or replace the plate heat exchanger.
