Possible Causes
Dirty burner, Incorrect gas/air ratio, Poor grounding, Partially blocked heat exchanger, Faulty flame rod
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Shut off power and gas. Combustion components can be hot and may release flue gases when opened.
- Clean flame rod: Remove and clean the flame rod with fine abrasive as described for E02.
- Inspect burner: Remove the burner assembly following NTI procedures. Check for rust, debris, or blocked ports. Clean with a soft brush and vacuum; do not enlarge burner holes.
- Check ground and wiring: Ensure all ground wires and burner mounting screws are tight. Inspect the flame rod wire for cracks or burns.
- Combustion check: A technician should verify gas pressure and perform a combustion analysis, adjusting if necessary and cleaning the heat exchanger if heavily fouled.
