Possible Causes
Failed system circulator, seized pump, air-locked pump, faulty pump relay on control
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power. System water may be hot and under pressure.
Steps:
- Check pump operation: During a call for heat, the Peerless circulator should run. If silent, check for 120 VAC at the pump terminals (technician task).
- Bleed air: Air in the pump can prevent rotation. Use the pump's vent plug (if present) to bleed air with the system off and cool.
- Feel pump body: If the pump hums but does not circulate, the impeller may be stuck. Some pumps can be freed by manually turning the shaft (per manufacturer instructions).
- If pump is failed: Replace the circulator pump with a compatible Peerless-specified model and purge air from the system.
