Possible Causes
Blocked combustion air intake pipe, Screened intake terminal clogged, Faulty air pressure switch, Inducer fan not starting
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas before inspecting intake and exhaust. Combustion issues can lead to carbon monoxide hazards.
- Inspect intake terminal: On direct-vent Pennco boilers, check the outside air intake for leaves, snow, insect nests, or other obstructions. Clear any blockage.
- Check intake piping: Ensure the PVC or metal intake pipe is intact, properly sloped, and not collapsed or disconnected.
- Verify inducer operation: Restore power and call for heat. Listen for the inducer fan starting. If it does not run, check the inducer motor wiring and any fuses on the control board.
- Inspect air pressure switch tubing: Make sure the tubing to the air pressure switch is not kinked or filled with water.
- If E10 remains: The air pressure switch or inducer assembly may be defective and should be tested and replaced by a technician.
