Possible Causes

Open or shorted outdoor temperature sensor, Damaged sensor cable, Incorrect sensor location (direct sun or heat source), Faulty control board sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before working on wiring.

  • Locate outdoor sensor: Find the Pennco outdoor reset sensor mounted on an exterior wall, typically on the north or shaded side.
  • Inspect cable: Check the low-voltage cable from the sensor back to the boiler for cuts, staples through the wire, or UV damage.
  • Check mounting: Ensure the sensor is not in direct sunlight or near dryer vents or other heat sources.
  • Test sensor: Measure resistance at the boiler terminals and compare to the outdoor temperature/resistance chart. Replace the sensor if out of range.
  • If E13 remains: The outdoor reset input on the control board may be defective and require replacement.
