Possible Causes

Blocked condensate trap, Kinked condensate drain hose, Faulty condensate float switch, Improper condensate pump operation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before working on condensate components. Condensate is mildly acidic; wear gloves and eye protection.

  • Locate condensate trap: Find the clear or opaque plastic trap at the bottom of the heat exchanger. Remove and flush it with clean water to remove sludge.
  • Check drain line: Ensure the condensate hose is not kinked, frozen, or blocked. Verify it slopes continuously to the drain.
  • Inspect float switch: If equipped, check the condensate float switch in the trap or external pump. Make sure it moves freely and is not stuck.
  • Test condensate pump: If a pump is used, pour water into the reservoir and confirm it activates and discharges properly.
  • If E16 remains: The float switch or its wiring may be faulty and require replacement.
