Possible Causes
No gas supply to burner, Dirty or misaligned flame sensor, Faulty spark igniter or ignition cable, Defective gas valve or ignition module on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety warning: If you smell gas, do not attempt to light the boiler or operate electrical switches. Evacuate the area and contact your gas supplier or emergency services.
- Verify gas supply: Ensure the manual gas shutoff valve to the Pennco boiler is fully open. Confirm other gas appliances in the home are working.
- Reset the boiler: Turn off power for 30 seconds, then restore power and attempt a reset according to the Pennco control instructions. Observe if the igniter sparks and if the burner lights briefly then goes out.
- Inspect flame sensor: With power off and gas off, remove the burner access panel. Locate the flame sensor rod near the burner. Clean it gently with fine steel wool or emery cloth to remove oxidation, then reinstall.
- Check igniter and wiring: Inspect the spark igniter and ignition cable for cracks, damage, or loose connections at the ignition module on the control board.
- If no ignition or repeated E2: The gas valve or integrated ignition control may be faulty. These components should only be tested and replaced by a qualified boiler technician with proper combustion test equipment.
