Possible Causes
Faulty domestic hot water NTC sensor, Loose or corroded sensor connector, Damaged sensor wiring, PCB input fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate power before removing the boiler front cover.
User checks:
- Run a hot water tap and observe if the boiler attempts to fire before the error appears.
- Reset the boiler once and see if hot water returns temporarily.
Engineer checks:
- Locate the DHW NTC sensor on the domestic hot water outlet or plate heat exchanger.
- Measure sensor resistance at known temperatures and compare with Potterton specifications.
- Inspect wiring harness and connector for damage or moisture ingress.
- Replace the DHW NTC sensor if readings are out of range or intermittent.
- If sensor is OK, test continuity back to the PCB and evaluate PCB function.
A faulty DHW sensor is a common cause of E06 and is usually resolved by sensor replacement.
