Possible Causes
Failed hot surface igniter, Open igniter wiring, Dirty flame sensor, No gas flow to burner
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF power and gas. Allow the boiler to cool.
Steps:
- 1. Inspect igniter: Locate the hot surface igniter on the burner assembly. Look for cracks or breaks in the element. A damaged igniter must be replaced.
- 2. Check igniter wiring: Ensure the igniter plug is fully seated on the control board and wires are not burnt or frayed.
- 3. Clean flame sensor: If the flame sensor is separate, clean it with fine abrasive pad to remove oxidation.
- 4. Verify gas valve operation: Confirm the manual gas valve is open. A technician should verify that the gas valve is receiving power during ignition and that gas pressure is within spec.
After addressing issues, reset the boiler per the manual. If E01 persists, have a technician test the igniter resistance and ignition control.
