Possible Causes

Shorted flame sensor to ground, Moisture or condensation on burner or sensor, Faulty ignition control board, Electrical noise on flame signal circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn OFF power and gas.

Steps:

  • 1. Inspect flame sensor wiring: Ensure the flame rod is not touching the burner or grounded metal except at its mounting point. Check the sensor wire for damaged insulation or shorts.
  • 2. Dry moisture: Look for condensation or water in the burner area. Dry components and correct any source of water intrusion (leaks, vent issues).
  • 3. Clean sensor: Remove and clean the flame sensor with a non-abrasive pad.

If E02 persists after cleaning and drying, the ignition control may be misreading the flame signal and should be evaluated by a technician.
