Possible Causes
Failed fan speed sensor (tach output), Damaged fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver circuit on main PCB, Obstructed or stiff fan wheel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the combustion fan or control board.
- Step 1 – Inspect fan assembly: Remove the front cover and locate the combustion fan. Check for debris, corrosion, or signs of overheating.
- Step 2 – Check wiring: Verify that the multi-pin connector between the fan and main PCB is fully seated and undamaged. Look for broken or pulled wires.
- Step 3 – Spin test: Rotate the fan wheel by hand. It should move freely. If stiff or noisy, replace the fan assembly.
- Step 4 – Electrical test: A technician can monitor the tachometer signal from the fan to the PCB with a meter or oscilloscope. If no signal is present while the fan runs, the fan’s internal sensor is faulty and the fan must be replaced.
- Step 5 – PCB evaluation: If a good fan does not receive proper control or the PCB does not read the tach signal, the main control board may need replacement.
Warning: Incorrect fan operation can lead to unsafe combustion. Do not operate the boiler with known fan faults.
