Possible Causes
Failed inducer motor, seized blower wheel, blocked flue collector, defective inducer relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas. Do not run the boiler with the inducer removed.
- Listen for inducer operation: On a call for heat, the inducer should start before ignition. If it is silent, suspect power or motor failure.
- Inspect wiring and connector: Check the inducer motor plug and wiring harness for burns or loose connections. Reseat the connector.
- Check for mechanical binding: With power off, spin the inducer wheel by hand (if accessible). It should turn freely without scraping. If seized, the inducer assembly must be replaced.
- Test voltage (advanced): A technician can verify that the control board is sending proper voltage to the inducer. If voltage is present but the motor does not run, replace the inducer. If no voltage, the control board or safety chain is at fault.
