Possible Causes
Loose communication harness, defective display/interface board, main PCB communication port failure, electrical noise or surge damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before removing any covers or boards.
- Reseat communication cables: Locate the multi‑pin cable between the user interface/display and the main control board. Disconnect and reconnect both ends firmly.
- Inspect for damage: Look for pinched cables, broken connectors, or signs of overheating on either board.
- Power cycle: Restore power and see if E20 clears. If it returns, one of the boards may be defective.
- Board replacement: Replace the display board first if indicated by Ruud service literature. If the issue persists, the main PCB may need replacement by a qualified technician.
