Slant/Fin
Air Bound System / Poor Circulation to Upper Levels
Radiators or baseboards on upper floors are cold while lower floors heat
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Air trapped in upper piping, Insufficient system pressure, Improperly located air vents, Undersized circulator on Slant/Fin system
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Bleeding air can release hot water. Use gloves and a container.
Steps:
- 1. Increase system pressure slightly: Temporarily raise cold pressure to 15–18 psi to help push air to vents (do not exceed 25–27 psi cold).
- 2. Bleed upper radiators: Starting at the top floor, open manual air bleeders until water flows steadily. Close tightly.
- 3. Check automatic air vents: Ensure caps on automatic vents near the boiler and high points are open (loose) to allow air to escape.
Professional service: If air problems recur, a technician should review system design, circulator sizing, and install proper air separators if needed.
