Possible Causes
Seized internal pump, Air locked pump, Electrical failure of pump motor, Loose pump wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and allow the boiler to cool. Close isolation valves if present before removing any pump components.
- Step 1 – Listen and feel: Call for heat and listen for the internal pump on the Triangle Tube boiler. If it hums but does not circulate, it may be stuck.
- Step 2 – Bleed air: Use the bleed screw on the pump face (if equipped) to release trapped air. Place a towel under the screw, open slightly until water flows steadily, then close.
- Step 3 – Check wiring: Inspect the pump’s electrical connector and wiring back to the control board. Reseat the plug.
- Step 4 – Power cycle: Restore power and test. If E17 persists and the pump does not run, the pump motor is likely failed.
- Professional replacement: Replacing the internal circulator requires draining and refilling the boiler and should be done by a qualified technician.
