Possible Causes
Leaking relief valve, Corroded heat exchanger, Loose piping connections, Condensate leak (on condensing models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and, if leak is significant, close the water supply and allow the boiler to cool. Beware of hot water.
- Identify leak source: Remove the front panel and use a flashlight to trace the leak. Check the pressure relief valve discharge pipe, pump flanges, and all threaded connections.
- Check system pressure: If the relief valve is discharging, the system pressure may be too high. Verify the expansion tank and fill valve operation.
- Inspect condensate system: On condensing Utica boilers, ensure the condensate trap and hoses are intact and not cracked or disconnected.
- Tighten fittings: Carefully tighten any loose unions or threaded fittings. Do not overtighten cast-iron sections.
- Heat exchanger leaks: If water appears to come from inside the heat exchanger or between cast-iron sections, the boiler may need major repair or replacement by a professional.
