Possible Causes
Hidden leak in heating circuit, Faulty pressure relief valve passing, Failed expansion vessel, Micro-leaks on Vokera manifold or heat exchanger
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not over-pressurise the system above the manufacturer’s recommendation.
- Visual leak check: Inspect all visible pipework, radiators, and the area under the boiler for dampness or staining.
- Check PRV discharge: Look at the copper safety discharge pipe outside; if it drips when the boiler heats up, the PRV may be passing.
- Monitor pressure: Note cold and hot pressures to inform an engineer.
- Engineer tasks:
- Test and recharge or replace the expansion vessel.
- Replace a faulty PRV.
- Pressure-test the system to locate hidden leaks.
Constant topping up introduces fresh oxygen and accelerates corrosion; the root cause must be fixed.
