Possible Causes
Micro-leaks in piping or radiators, leaking automatic air vents, faulty expansion tank Schrader valve, relief valve seeping intermittently
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow system to cool before checking vents or relief valve discharge.
- 1. Inspect automatic air vents: Look at the tops of air separators and radiators for signs of dried mineral deposits or moisture. Replace leaking vents.
- 2. Check relief valve outlet: Place a dry cup or paper under the relief discharge pipe and monitor for intermittent drips.
- 3. Examine expansion tank: On diaphragm tanks, test the Schrader valve briefly. If water comes out, the diaphragm has failed and the tank must be replaced.
- 4. Refill and monitor: Use the fill valve to restore proper pressure, then monitor the gauge daily to identify the rate of loss.
