Possible Causes

Open-circuit flow NTC sensor, Shorted flow NTC sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty control PCB input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power and allow boiler to cool before touching any pipework.

  • Reset the boiler: Sometimes a transient sensor error clears after a reset. If the code returns immediately, further checks are needed.
  • Visual inspection: With the front cover removed only if you are competent and without disturbing the combustion chamber, look for obvious damage to the sensor wiring on the flow pipe (usually clipped to the copper pipe leaving the heat exchanger).
  • Check for water leaks: Any leak onto the wiring or PCB can cause sensor faults. If you see leaks, isolate the boiler and call an engineer.
  • Engineer tasks: A Gas Safe engineer should test the NTC resistance, inspect wiring continuity, and replace the flow temperature sensor or PCB as required.
