Possible Causes
Worn suction motor bearings, Debris in brush bearings, Loose fan impeller, Foreign object in pump or nozzle
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit immediately if you hear grinding or screeching to prevent further damage.
- Identify noise source: Run the unit briefly (plugged in) with the brush off the carpet to locate whether the noise comes from the base, hose, or brush head. Then unplug before disassembly.
- Inspect brush assembly: Remove the brush roll and check for worn end caps or bearings. Replace the brush roll if noisy when spun by hand.
- Check for foreign objects: Look inside the nozzle, hose, and suction inlet for coins, stones, or plastic pieces that may rattle or grind.
- Inspect motor area: If the noise clearly comes from the motor, remove the housing and check the fan impeller for cracks or looseness. A failing motor bearing usually requires replacement of the entire motor unit.
Do not continue using a noisy motor; bearing failure can lead to overheating and electrical hazards.
