Carpet cleaner will not start; display shows E1 immediately after pressing the power or start button.

Safety first: Unplug the AEG carpet cleaner from the wall outlet before any inspection. Never work on a live appliance.

• Check the wall outlet: Plug in a lamp or another appliance to confirm the outlet has power.
• Inspect the power cord: Look for cuts, kinks, burn marks, or crushed sections along the AEG power cord. If damaged, the cord set must be replaced, not taped.
• Test the power switch: Remove the top housing according to the service manual. Locate the main rocker or push-button power switch on the handle or body. Use a multimeter in continuity mode to verify that the switch closes (beeps) when turned ON. Replace the switch if it does not make contact.
• Check the line fuse on the PCB: On many AEG carpet cleaners, a small glass or ceramic fuse is mounted on the main control PCB. Visually inspect for a broken filament or discoloration. Test with a multimeter; if open, replace with the exact same rating (amperage and type). If the new fuse blows immediately, stop and call a technician—there is likely a short on the board or motor circuit.
• Inspect the PCB for damage: Look for burnt components or tracks on the AEG control module. Any visible burning or melted areas usually require full PCB replacement.
