E17 appears when attempting to start; unit beeps and refuses to run if the handle is folded or not fully upright.

Safety first: Disconnect from mains before adjusting the handle assembly.

• Set handle to correct position: Ensure the handle is fully locked in the operating position. Some AEG models will not run if the handle is folded for storage.
• Inspect hinge mechanism: Check for cracks or excessive play in the handle hinge that might prevent the position switch from actuating.
• Locate position switch: Inside the hinge area, find the microswitch or sensor that detects handle position. Verify that the actuator tab or cam is correctly engaging the switch.
• Test switch: Use a multimeter to check continuity while moving the handle between storage and operating positions. Replace the switch if it does not change state reliably.

Do not bypass the handle safety switch; it prevents accidental operation when the unit is not in a safe position.
