Possible Causes

Failed solution pump, Blocked solution line or spray nozzle, Faulty flow sensor (if equipped), Airlock in solution pump

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit and empty tanks before disassembly.

  • 1. Confirm tanks are seated: Remove and reinstall the clean water tank and formula tank (or combined tank) firmly. Many Bissell models use tank presence switches; if not seated, the pump may be disabled.
  • 2. Prime the pump: Fill the clean water tank with warm tap water. With the unit plugged in and upright, hold the trigger for 30–60 seconds to purge air from the pump. If spray returns, the error may clear.
  • 3. Clean spray tips and lines: Remove the spray nozzle assembly (front foot) and rinse under warm water. Use a soft brush or toothpick to clear mineral deposits. Check the small rubber solution outlet grommets for blockage.
  • 4. Inspect pump and hoses: With the unit unplugged and cover removed, locate the solution pump and attached hoses. Look for kinks, cracks, or dislodged hoses. Reseat any loose clamps.
  • 5. Replace pump or flow sensor: If the pump does not run when the trigger is pulled (but the machine is otherwise powered), the pump motor or internal diaphragm may have failed. Replace the solution pump assembly. On models with a flow sensor, a failed sensor can also trigger E3 and may need replacement.
